Wanslea works with children and young people up to 18 years who are experiencing an emotional disturbance or vulnerable to the development of a mental health issue.
Services are limited to the Local Government areas of Gosnells, Armadale and Wanneroo.
The early intervention program will engage children 5-18 years of age directly in:
Mental health promotion - collaboratively developing strategies to achieve and maintain good mental health
Informal counselling - reviewing and reflecting on emotional challenges
Peer support programs - bringing together children and young people with similar experiences to learn from each other
Services are offered on the basis of a Family Action Plan developed with the child/children and a parent, guardian or significant supportive adult. Parent directed work will be undertaken when it is clearly supported by the children’s goals within the Family Action Plan.
Young people over 10 years of age can complete an Expression of Interest form themselves. Parents and families can complete a referral form themselves. Schools and agencies can refer families by completing the form in partnership with a member/s of the family.
